ABA THERAPY BRUSSELS

I provide ABA therapy for children/adults within autistic spectrum, Down syndrome, ADHD and in many other medical conditions -  in Brussels and around.

The programs are personalized depending on the child's developmental level and for acquiring daily skills, the personalized plan involve elements of ABA Verbal (imitations, sorts, requests, answers to questions, phonemes, syllables and words, elements of fine and gross motor skills).

The programs include the acquisition of elements of mind theory (interpretation of facial expressions, recognition of feelings - joy, sadness, fear, learning things from the perspective of others) and social skills.

For non-verbal persons, I provide learning of communication systems through PECS.

In terms of reducing difficult behaviors (eg, rocking, avoiding activities, aggressive behaviors with oneself or others) I implement personalized interventions based on reinforcement, modification of antecedents or consequences, differential reinforcement etc.

To follow the evolution of the child/person, I collect data for presenting reports to the family, periodic evaluations (ABLLS-R, VB-MAPP etc), standard interview forms for problem behaviors.

What is ABA - Applied Behavior Analysis?

ABA is an evidence-based practice treatment. That means that its techniques are scientifically tested, they proved their effectiveness and quality over the years and their usage continue to provide very good results.

We are looking through the lens of excesses and deficits. We would like to decrease an undesirable behavior (like aggression, stereotypy) and we have as target an increase of a desirable behavior (like knowing how to play, verbal behavior) who is in deficit.

The techniques focus on what happened before the apparition of behavior (antecedent) and what happened after the behavior (consequence). Positive reinforcement is one of the most and largely used technique in ABA because a behavior that has as consequence something pleasant is more likely to be reproduced again.

Assessment

The assessment provides detailed explanations about cognitive strengths and weaknesses and the way a person learns. We need assessments in order to know what to work on. I use standard assessment tools used in ABA services like VB-MAPP, ABLLS-R and standard interview forms in establishing the function of problems behavior.

Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)

A BIP follows after the assessment of the child/person` skills. In this way, depending of the lacks and the needs of the specific person, the personalized program will be tailored.

Parent/caregiver participation

BIP will always require close interaction with the family, frequent meetings and training for the parent/caregiver. Not only the therapist will apply the procedures, but the parent/caregiver will be involved in measuring, observing, implementing the therapy outside the therapy hours, delivering reinforcers, sharing the improvements and the observations with the therapist and with the behavior analyst.
